“THE TAMING OF THE SHREW” BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
IS AN EPIC NO-HOLDS-BARRED BATTLE OF THE SEXES

Bare Theatre will stage THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, the classic no-holds-barred Battle of the Sexes by English dramatist and poet William Shakespeare (1564-1616), first produced in 1593-94, on Oct. 2nd and 3rd at the Holly Springs Cultural Center in Holly Springs, NC, and on Oct. 8-11 at Common Ground Theatre in Durham, NC.

According to Bare Theatre:

“THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is a fast-paced, hilarious love story that is also the ultimate battle of the sexes. Directed by [Bare Theatre] artistic director Heather J. Hackford and set in modern corporate America, this classic tale pits the ambitious, hard-headed Petruchio [Matt Schedler] against the infamously stubborn shrew, Katharina [Jennifer Neale].

“Bare Theatre's production mixes commedia dell'arte clowning by veteran Bare performer Tara Pozo and comedic physicality staged by fight director Jeff A. R. Jones. Hackford sets the scene with a modern abstract cityscape and a sound design of jazzy electronic music by company sound designer G. Todd Buker.

“Bare Theatre has continued to receive critical acclaim, most recently with its production of TWELFTH NIGHT in 2007 being named one of the year's 10 best shows by THE NEWS & OBSERVER and OTHELLO in 2008, with one reviewer noting ‘As one young man said to his father at the play's close, “This felt real, Dad'” (Kathy Justice, INDEPENDENT WEEKLY, 20 February 2008).”

In addition to Matt Schedler as Petruchio and Jennifer Neale as Katharina, the Bare Theatre cast for THE TAMING OF THE SHREW includes Jason Bailey as Lucentio; Kacey Reynolds as Tranio; Joyce Davis as Vincentio; Loren Armitage as Hortensio; Kurt Benrud as Baptista Minola; Brook North as Biondello; Kelly Haas as Bianca; Richard Butner as Gremio; G. Todd Buker as Grumio; Jeff Buckner as Curtis and a Pedant; Chuck Keith as Widow, a Tailor, Nathaniel, and various Servants; and J.R. Aiello as a Haberdasher, Peter and various Servants, and an Attendant.

In addition to director Heather Hackford, fight director Jeff A. R. Jones, and sound designer G. Todd Buker, the show's creative team includes clown trainer/assistant director Carmen-maria Mandley, properties mistress Katie Strickland, and stage manager Lucinda Gainey.
