Press releaseFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bare Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, February 15th – 18th, at Common Ground Theatre. In this, Shakespeare’s most famous play, two wealthy families take to the streets of Verona in a bitter feud that results in bloodshed on both sides. A friar and a nurse are caught in the middle while a poor apothecary peddles poison despite his better judgment. Through it all are two young lovers who will stop at nothing to be together. Critically acclaimed actor Jesse R. Gephart will direct this intensely physical and emotional drama with a gritty modern twist, while remaining true to Shakespeare’s words. The play also features physical direction by Carmen-maria Mandley, fight choreography by Heather J. Hackford, and costumes by Jeremy Clos. Bare Theatre Company is a Raleigh-based company that made its debut in 2001 with a staged reading of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus and a full production of Much Ado About Nothing. It resurrected in 2005 with a Rogue Company production of Titus Andronicus in July, which was awarded runner-up for the top ten shows in 2005 by the News & Observer and The Classical Voice of North Carolina. Romeo & Juliet is the fourth production of Bare Theatre’s second full season. Advance tickets are available online at www.baretheatre.org.
