press releasePRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bare Theatre presents Bare Theatre continues its no-holds-barred third season with Shakespeare's dramatic tale of uncontrolled human emotion, Othello. The production runs February 14-17 at Common Ground Theatre in Durham and February 21-22 at the Holly Springs Cultural Arts Center. The story of Othello is as much about the passionate and envious characters surrounding Othello as it is about the title character himself. It features one of Shakespeare's greatest villains - Iago, a master of manipulation and lies - as well as Desdemona, one of Shakespeare's most tragic leading ladies. Jealousy, misguided trusts, human puppetry, and ultimately psychic chaos and madness drop us head long into the world of Othello, directed by Artistic Director Carmen-maria Mandley. This production features a live percussion ensemble led by G. Todd Buker (PROXY), and fight direction and choreography by Heather J. Hackford. Bare Theatre Company is a Raleigh-based company that made its debut in 2001 with a production of Much Ado About Nothing. It returned in 2005 with a Rogue Company production of Titus Andronicus, which was awarded runner-up for the top ten shows in 2005 by the News & Observer and The Classical Voice of North Carolina. Bare Theatre has continued to receive critical acclaim, most recently with its production of Twelfth Night of which Roy C. Dicks of the News and Observer raved, "This highly theatrical company regularly mounts Shakespeare with a depth of understanding and a joy of presentation."
